Pitta-Fire and Water

The hot and sharp quality of Pitta disorders commonly manifest as infection ,inflammation and skin and eye disorders. There are 70 Pitta disorders related to the eyes alone. Pitta has a tendency to be overzealous and overdo things a bit. They can be great organizers and leaders.

Ways to balance Pitta:
  • eat a Pitta pacifying diet
  • avoid stimulants
  • engage in calm activities and exercise
  • observe seasonal changes
  • have cool showers
  • Use sandalwood and rose oil
  • use cooling massage oils
This is a list of Pitta pacifying foods. It is not a complete list. Remember, just because it is on the list does not mean that it is bio energetically matched to you. There are many things to examine when choosing the correct foods for a dosha.
Sweet Fruit: 
​Sweet apples, berries, oranges and cherries
Dates, figs, purple grapes, limes, melons
pears, pineapples, sweet plums, prunes, raisins

Avoid:
sour fruits-apples, berries, cherries,grapes, oranges, pineapple,bananas, lemons,peaches, plums
Vegetables:
asparagus, cooked beets, onions and carrots, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery,cucumbers, green beans, leafy greens,mushrooms, peas, green peppers, sweet potatoes, sprouts, squash, zucchini

​Avoid:
​in general pungent vegetables- 
raw beets, fresh corn, eggplant, mustard greens, raw onions, hot peppers, spinach- cooked ok occasionally, tomatoes.
Grain:
amaranth, barley, bran,granola, quinoa, cooked oats, rice-basmati white, wild- rice cakes, wheat

Avoid:
yeasted bread, buckwheat, corn, millet, dry oats , buckwheat, rice- can be taken occasionally, rye
Legumes:
black beans, chick peas, kidney beans, lentils, mung beans, navy beans, pinto beans, soybeans ( very limited)

Avoid:
miso, soya sauce​
OIls:
ghee, sunflower, canola, olive, coconut

Avoid:
almond, apricot, corn, safflower, sesame
​
Spices:
cinnamon, coriander, cumin, fennel,  fresh ginger, saffron, turmeric, limited vanilla and black pepper ( limited)

Avoid:
Avoid
hing, bay leaf, cayenne, cloves, garlic, dry ginger, mustard seeds, nutmeg, oregano​

​
Dairy:
unsalted butter, soft, non aged cheese, cows milk, ghee, goats milk, fresh yogurt- diluted.
​Avoid:
salted butter, buttermilk, hard cheese, sour cream, yogurt with fruit
Animal food:
white chicken, eggs, fresh water fish, rabbit, white turkey, moderate shrimp, venison

​Avoid:
beef, dark chicken and turkey, limit egg yolks, sea fish, lamb, mutton, pork
Condiments:
​moderate black pepper, sweet chutneys,moderate, limes, rock salt, seaweed

​Avoid:
chili peppers, pungent spices, chocolate, mustard, mayonnaise,              pickles, sea salt, vinegar
Nuts:
almonds-soaked and peeled, coconut

Avoid:
all nuts except the yes column​
Seeds:
flax, psylium, pumpkin, sunflower

​Avoid:
sesame, tahini
Beverages:
​limited beer and white wine, almond milk, apple juice, carob, grain coffee, grape juice, orange juice, pomegranate, prune, juice, rice milk,
herbal teas-chamomile, dandelion,mint, fennel, licorice, red clover

Avoid:
hard alcohol, red wine, caffeinated beverages, chocolate milk, cranberry juice, grapefruit juice, iced tea, lemonade, pineapple and tomato juice
herbal teas; ginseng, cinnamon, rose hip

Sweetener:
barley malt, maple syrup, rice syrup, honey-occasionally

Avoid:
molasses, white sugar
